Asahidake - Daisetsu San

Asahidake or Daisetsu San is the highest mountain in Hokkaido standing at 2290 meters and is the crown jewel of the majestic Daisetsu San national park. The mountain offers fantastic skiing and boarding on and off trail and offers some excellent backcountry opportunities just a short hike from the top of the ropeway. Asahidake is an active volcano and offers spectacular views of steam vents that gush steam high into the sky, on a clear day it is an alpine experience like no other. The mountain is usually uncrowded and because of its high elevation and inland location offers incredibly dry snow. The mountain has a couple of flat spots but the bits in between make it all worthwhile.
