Takino Suzuran Park, Hokkaido
21 Sep, 2010
Takino Suzuran Park is one of the largest parks in Sapporo and well worth a visit. It is a great family spot and has lots of attractions for all ages to enjoy. The park is also situated close to public transport and can be accessed easily from central Sapporo.
At the time of writing (mid September) the park had a fantastic display of Cosmos flowers. Here a whole hillside was planted with several different varieties of the flower and made for quite a spectacle. Other attractions included restaurants, castles, waterfalls, giant ball rolling, fantastic kids slides, ice creams and bush walks.
The park is carefully laid out and constructed and on entry you are provided with an easy to read map. One of the beauties of this park is that it is an easy way for anyone of any age and mobility to access the outdoors.
Almost every attraction has wheel chair access and most paths are sealed. And for those who want a more organic park experience there are also bush walks to the parks natural waterfalls.
Access to the park by car is via route 453 which you then turn left (coming from Sapporo) onto route 341. It is well sign posted and can’t be missed. Public transport is easy, simply take the Namboku Subway line to Makomonai station (the final station) and then take a bus bound for Takino Suzuran Park.
